When lighting the Hanukkah menorah, we remember the Maccabees’ second-century victory over the Greeks. We also remember the oil that was meant for one night, but that actually lasted for eight. Many Jews interpret a message of sustainability and resource conservation. Another message is the abundance of family as we gather around increased light for eight nights in a row.
